Bond yields trade higher on Tuesday

Bond yields traded higher on Tuesday, as traders remained concern with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s statement that the number of wilful defaulters in nationalised banks has increased by over 60 per cent to 8,582 in five years to March 2019. By the end of 2014-15 fiscal, the figure stood at 5,349.

In the global market, US Treasury yields fell on Monday, holding just above almost three-year lows, ahead of trade talks between the US and China later this week. Furthermore, Oil prices were steady, supported by worries over conflict between Iran and the United States but pressured by concerns about a potential decline in demand for crude.

Back home, the yields on new 10 year Government Stock were trading 3 basis points higher at 6.88% from its previous close of 6.85% on Monday.

The benchmark five-year interest rates were trading 4 basis points higher at 6.75% from its previous close of 6.71% on Monday.
