M&M to expand its businesses in Sri Lanka

Mahindra & Mahindra, country’s largest vehicle marker is planning to enter into 2-wheeler and aviation businesses in Sri Lanka, which is a largest vehicle export market for the group. It is also looking at exploring possibilities in financing, hospitality, housing and IT sectors.

The group will introduce its scooters in Sri Lanka by the end of this year, while it has already sold its first aircraft in Sri Lanka. Currently it is undergoing a brand-building exercise in the country by joining hands with Sri Lanka Premier League (SLPL) as the title sponsor for the first edition of the tournament.

The entity, has reported 21.74% jump in sales at 45,836 units for August against 37,684 units in the same month last year. The company’s domestic sales were up 19.77% 42,826 units during the month against 35,756 units in August 2011.
