Mahindra & Mahindra mulls to foray into the Russian market

06 Sep 2012 Evaluate

Mahindra & Mahindra, India’s leading SUV manufacturer is likely to foray into the Russian market but launch of the Mahindra branded vehicle will happen after the two years. At present the company is holding discussions to start Russian operations and has been talking to various distributors.

The company is studying the market as to whether it should start with a manufacturing facility or by selling the vehicles as CBU (completely built unit) imports. In Russia, its  subsidiary SsangYong Motor has an assembly operation at present for completely knocked down (CKD) units and the company plans to add more models to the line-up there by the end of next year.

The company has maintained its leadership position in the tractor industry in August 2012. Total tractor sales (domestic + exports) in August 2012 stood at 13,234 units, marginally down by 17.30% as against 16,003 units for the same period last year.
