Asian markets trade mostly higher in early deals on Monday

Most of the Asian equity benchmarks are trading higher on Monday, tracking broad optimism that China and the United States are close to the first phase of an initial trade agreement. Though, ongoing protests in Hong Kong capped some gains. Japan's Nikkei is trading higher, with a weaker yen. Among the other Asian markets, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Shanghai are in positive lead.  Bucking the trend, Indonesia, South Korea and Malaysia are trading lower.

Nikkei 225 up 58.79 points 0.25% to 23,362.11, Straits Times rose 9.37 points or 0.29% to 3,248.23, Hang Seng increased 292.11 points or 1.11% to 26,618.77, Taiwan Weighted widened 43.00 points or 0.37% to 11,568.60, and Shanghai lifted 16.78 points or 0.58% to 2,908.12.

On the flip side, Jakarta Composite down by 18.98 points or 0.31% to 6,109.37, KOSPI Index dipped 6.55 points or 0.30% to 2,155.63, and FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI down 1.24 points or 0.08% to 1,593.51.
