Asian markets trade lower in early deals on Wednesday

Asian equity benchmarks are trading lower on Wednesday, following lackluster cues from US stock market after reports said that US President Donald Trump threatened higher tariffs on Chinese goods if a trade deal is not reached between the two economic powerhouses, dulling prospects for the deal between two super powers of the world. Market sentiments also weighed after US Senate passed legislation supporting protesters in Hong Kong. China has condemned the US Senate measure. Japan's Nikkei is trading lower amid the safe-haven yen strengthened. Among the other Asian markets, Singapore, South Korea, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Shanghai and Malaysia are trading lower.

Nikkei 225 down 181.77 points 0.78% to 23,110.88, Straits Times contracted 6.01 points or 0.19% to 3,232.86, Hang Seng decreased 169.62 points or 0.63% to 26,924.18, Taiwan Weighted narrowed 57.80 points or 0.50% to 11,598.60, KOSPI Index dipped 24.86 points or 1.15% to 2,128.38, Jakarta Composite dragged by 5.96 points or 0.10% to 6,146.13, Shanghai diminished 11.03 points or 0.38% to 2,922.96, and FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI down 6.05 points or 0.38% to 1,599.26.
