The Solvent Extractors' Association (SEA) in its latest report stated that Indian oil meals shipments declined about 79.20% at 67,562 tonne in December 2019 as against previous year same month's 3,24,927 tonne. The disparity in export of oil meals, specifically soybean meal in line with higher minimum support price (MSP) of beans has made the domestic soybean meal expensive in international market compared to other origins.

Overall oil meals exporting during April-December period of the current fiscal dipped by 25% to 18.02 lakh tonne as against 24.11 lakh tonne previous year. The shipment of soya bean extract fell significantly to 5,876 tonne during December 2019 from 1,70,588 tonne in the year-ago period. Similarly, as per the report, export of rapeseed extract declined to 24,609 tonne from 87,106 tonne, while that of rice bran extract narrowed to 3,550 tonne from 49,060 tonne in the said period.

However, export of castor meal picked up by 60% to 4,69,248 tonne in December 2019 from last year same month's 2,92,511 tonne. South East Asian nations, the Middle East as well as European countries like Germany besides the US are main export market for Indian oil meals.
