Asian markets trade lower on Wednesday

Asian equity benchmarks were trading lower on Wednesday as investors’ sentiment was dampened after reports that despite the signing of the trade deal, tariffs on billions of dollars of Chinese goods are likely to remain in place until after the US presidential election in November. The Trump administration is drafting rules allowing blocking more sales to Huawei Technologies Co. Meanwhile, China has refrained from cutting the interest rate on credit it injected to the financial system Wednesday. Japan's Nikkei is trading lower as the investors eyed on preliminary December figures for machine tool orders today. The safe-haven yen is firmer. Among the Asian markets, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Indonesia, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Malaysia are trading negative.

Nikkei 225 down 136.89 points or 0.57% to 23,888.28, Straits Times dipped 12.67 points or 0.39% to 3,257.87, Hang Seng decreased 246.19 points or 0.85% to 28,638.95, Taiwan Weighted curtailed 75.92 points or 0.62% to 12,103.89, KOSPI Index shrunk 6.56 points or 0.29% to 2,232.32, Jakarta Composite diminished by 20.27 points or 0.32% to 6,305.14, Shanghai narrowed 20.50 points or 0.66% to 3,086.32 and FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI slipped 4.23 points or 0.27% to 1,576.37.
