Asian markets trade mostly higher in early deals on Thursday

Asian equity benchmarks are trading mostly higher in early deals on Thursday, in line with firm US stocks over optimism about an economic recovery from coronavirus-induced lockdowns. Even though, concerns on the rising number of cases in low and middle-income countries, limited the gains. Japan's Nikkei is trading higher with the optimism over potential vaccine for the novel coronavirus and report that Japan's core machine orders fell less than expected in March also the boosted sentiments. Among the Asian markets, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, South Korea and Malaysia are in positive territory. However, Hong Kong and China are lower.

Nikkei 225 up by 6.69 points, 0.03% to 20,601.84, Straits Times rose by 3.76 points or 0.15% to 2,565.70, Taiwan Weighted lifted 98.26 points or 0.90% to 11,006.82 , KOSPI Index widened by 0.69 points or 13.67% to 2,003.31, and FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI higher by 13.64 points or 0.95% to 1,448.76.

On the flip side, Hang Seng diminished by 44.24 points or 0.18% to 24,377.85, and Shanghai lowered 1.87 points or 0.06% to 2,881.87.
