Asian markets trade mostly lower in early deals on Thursday

Most of the Asian equity benchmarks are trading lower on Thursday, as the investments in the market were curtailed counting on simmering US-China tensions, spiking COVID-19 cases and as lockdown measures being reinstated raising concerns over global economic health. However, surge in US stocks and better than expected Chinese economic rebound limited some losses. Among the other Asian markets, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea, China, and Malaysia are in negative. On the flip side, Indonesia is trading up.

Nikkei 225 down by 185.29 points, 0.81% to 22,760.21, Straits Times narrowed by 15.16 points or 0.57% to 2,633.74, Hang Seng slipped by 317.64 points or 1.25% to 25,163.94, Taiwan Weighted dipped 27.74 points or 0.23% to 12,175.11, KOSPI Index trimmed by 17.96 points or 0.82% to 2,183.92, Shanghai lower 56.88 points or 1.69% to 3,304.42 and FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI diminish by 2.28 points or 0.14% to 1,583.28.

Bucking the trend, Jakarta Composite added 18.95 points, 0.37% to 5,094.75.
