Tata Power’s arm submits bid for three power distribution companies in Nigeria

Tata Power’s subsidiary Tata Power Delhi Distribution (TPDDL) has submitted its bid for three power distribution companies in Nigeria by forming two separate consortiums with two leading companies of the African nation. The company’s arm will become the first Indian discom to operate in a foreign country, if it bags the contract. The required investment in three discoms is expected to be near $900 million.

The Nigerian government had decided to privatize 11 state-owned distribution companies as part of reforming the power sector and a total of 54 companies had bid for them out of which 21 firms including TPDDL have cleared the technical evaluation process.

Tata Power has a strong portfolio of wind power comprising of 376.4 MW of installed wind generating capacity, which makes it one of the largest renewable players in India. The wind farms of the company are spread across four states, viz. Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Karnataka.
