15 Oct 2012 Evaluate

Government of Goa has cancelled casino permits of Delta Corp’s two offshore casino vessels, Casino Royale and Arabian Sea King, operating in the waters of River Mandovi, as mentioned in a media report. The company owns and operates three offshore live gaming casinos on the Mandovi, namely, Casino Royale, Caravela and King's Casino.

Absence of Director General of Shipping’s trading licence’s for these vessels mainly was stated as reason for termination of casino license. Further, the government also highlighted unsatisfactory response of the operator with respect to show-cause notices issued by the Department.

Earlier, Delta Corp, which owns offshore casinos in Goa, was reported to be in talks with some of the largest hotel and casino operators in the world, including the Las Vegas-based MGM Resorts International and Caesars Entertainment, to sell a stake.

Casinos and gambling are prohibited in most parts of India. However, in Goa and Daman the business currently operates on licences issued under the Goa, Daman and Diu Public Gambling Act.
