Tata Motors’ arm reports 9% Y-o-Y fall in retail sales in Q3

Tata Motors’ wholly owned subsidiary -- Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has reported 9% Year-on-Year (Y-o-Y) fall in retail sales at 128,469 vehicles for the quarter ending December 31, 2020 (Q3) over the same period last year. However, it was 13.1% higher than the 113,569 vehicles sold in the preceding quarter. Of the total retail sales, Jaguar sales was 28,072 units, while Land Rover sales stood at 100,397 units in October-December period of 2020.

China sales were particularly encouraging, up 20.2% on the prior quarter and 19.1% Y-o-Y. Retail sales in most other regions also continued to recover and were up significantly on the prior quarter in North America (+31.7%), Overseas (+26.6%) and Europe (+20.5%). However, sales in these regions have not yet recovered to pre-Covid levels with sales for the quarter lower than a year ago in North America (-17.2%), Overseas (-20.0%), Europe (-16.3%) and the UK (-8.9%).

Tata Motors is India’s largest automobile company. Through subsidiaries and associate companies, Tata Motors has operations in the UK, South Korea, Thailand, South Africa and Indonesia. Among them is Jaguar Land Rover, the business comprising the two iconic British brands.
