SBI plunges on reporting NPA rise

State Bank of India (SBI)  is currently trading at Rs 2163.70, down by 79.85 points or 3.56% from its previous closing of Rs 2243.55 on the BSE.

The scrip opened at Rs 2237.00 and has touched a high and low of Rs 2269.00 and Rs 2151.00 respectively. So far 1064426 shares were traded on the counter.

The BSE group 'A' stock of face value Rs 10 has touched a 52 week high of Rs 2474.80 on 21-Feb-2012 and a 52 week low of Rs 1576.00 on 20-Dec-2011.

Last one week high and low of the scrip stood at Rs 2267.00 and Rs 2126.20 respectively. The current market cap of the company is Rs 145103.38 crore.

The promoters holding in the company stood at 61.58% while Institutions and Non-Institutions held 26.36% and 9.60% respectively.

State Bank of India has reported better than expected 30.16% rise in its net profit at Rs 3658.14 crore for second ended September 30, 2012. as compared to Rs 2810.43 crore for the same quarter in the previous year. Total income of the bank has increased by 12.11% at Rs 32953.47 crore for quarter under review as compared to Rs 29394.32 crore for the quarter ended September 30, 2011.

On consolidated basis, the bank has reported 31.84% rise in its net profit at Rs 4575.31 crore for the quarter as compared to Rs 3470.43 crore for the same quarter in the previous year. Total income of the bank has increased by 21.03% at Rs 49917.47 crore for quarter under review as compared to Rs 41244.65 crore for the quarter ended September 30, 2011.

However, the bank’s gross Non-performing assets (NPAs) stood at 5.15% versus 4.99% quarter-on-quarter. Additionally, Net NPA ratio was at 2.44% compared with 2.22% in the previous quarter. During the quarter, total gross NPAs stood at Rs 49,202 crore while net NPAs at Rs 22,614 crore.
