HDFC Bank opens 87 branches in Punjab and Haryana

HDFC Bank, second largest private sector lender has opened 87 branches on November 25, 2012, mostly in rural areas of Punjab and Haryana in one single-day. It has also introduced an exclusive Bharat Credit Card for farmers in both the states.

Bank’s 51 branches in Punjab branches and 36 branches in Haryana were formally inaugurated by Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda. Though this initiative, bank aims to bring 10 million unbanked families into the banking fold.

The bank posted a rise of 30.07% in its net profit at Rs 1559.98 crore for the quarter ended September 30, 2012 as compared to Rs 1199.35 crore for the same quarter in the previous year. Total income increased by 24.47% at Rs 9869.77 crore for quarter under review as compared to Rs 7929.38 crore for the quarter ended September 30, 2011.
