Expressing concern over the ceasefire violation and firing from the Pakistani side, Defence Minister A K Antony assured that enough troops have been deployed at the Line of Control (LoC) and the government is taking all steps to protect the nation's interests and the Indian armed forces.

The minister's statement came three days after Pakistani troops killed and beheaded two Indian soldiers in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district after breaching the Line of Control that divides the region between the two countries. The government is closely monitoring the situation and would do anything to protect the interest of the country, Antony said.

The cross-border trade also remained affected after Pakistan shut the gates at LoC trading post in Poonch sector, not allowing Indian trucks to unload. Director General Military Operations (DGMO) had been directed to be in touch with his Pakistani counterpart, and the government was awaiting the outcome of their talk.

Moreover, External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid said that Pakistan's High Commissioner has strongly told that killing of two Indian soldiers by Pakistani troops is unacceptable and added that it will have an adverse impact if it is not immediately contained. Also, India has sought a flag meeting between Indian and Pakistani commanders in Mendhar, but Pakistan is yet to respond.
