Angry over the delay in formation of a separate Telangana state, seven Congress MPs from the region has decided to resign both from parliament and the party and will send their resignation letters to party President Sonia Gandhi on January 30. They are also planning to write a letter to Sonia Gandhi detailing their woes.

Meanwhile, Telangana region, with its epicentre in state capital Hyderabad, simmered as protests continued on the second day of 36-hour 'Samara Deeksha' on Monday. On January 28, the Ranga Reddy district court admitted a petition against Union Home Minister Shinde and his predecessor P Chidambaram for allegedly cheating the people of Telangana. Rallies were taken out and meetings were held to condemn the statement of Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde and Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, who is in charge of the state.

After an all-party meeting in Delhi on Telangana issue on December 28, 2012, Shinde had said a decision would be made within a month. But on Sunday, the Home Minister announced that the government needed more time to reach to a final decision as the consultation process was still on. Soon after their meeting, the Congress MPs declared that they would send their resignation letters, addressed to the Lok Sabha speaker and to party President Sonia Gandhi.
