Union Bank of India seeks Chinese govt’s permission for branch in Shanghai

Union Bank of India (UBI) is seeking permission from Chinese government to upgrade its representative office in Shanghai to a full-fledged branch. At present, UBI has its representative offices in Shanghai, which was opened in 2007 and is looking to convert it into branch as it has already completed the two year mandatory period required to open a branch in China. UBI is the latest among India-government owned banks looking to cash in on the burgeoning India-China bilateral trade.

The bank has reported 37.67% rise in its net profit at Rs 302.40 crore for third quarter ended December 31, 2012 as compared to Rs 219.66 crore for the same quarter in the previous year. Total income of the bank has increased by 16.19% at Rs 6959.37 crore for quarter under review as compared to Rs 5989.48 crore for the quarter ended December 31, 2011.
