GAIL India trades higher on the bourses

GAIL (India) is currently trading at Rs. 344.65, up by 5.75 points or 1.70% from its previous closing of Rs. 338.90 on the BSE.

The scrip opened at Rs. 340.75 and has touched a high and low of Rs. 346.00 and Rs. 340.75 respectively. So far 27763 shares were traded on the counter.

The BSE group 'A' stock of face value Rs. 10 has touched a 52 week high of Rs. 401.00 on 16-Feb-2012 and a 52 week low of Rs. 303.10 on 18-May-2012.

Last one week high and low of the scrip stood at Rs. 359.40 and Rs. 335.60 respectively. The current market cap of the company is Rs. 43648.31 crore.

The promoters holding in the company stood at 57.34% while Institutions and Non-Institutions held 38.76% and 2.93% respectively.

GAIL India is keen on acquiring Asian Development Bank’s (ADB) stake in Petronet LNG (PLL). It had rejected the proposal to forego the first right of refusal to acquire ADB stake in PLL. ADB has decided to sell its 5.2% stake in Petronet, which has been formed as a joint venture by the Government with non-public sector character.

State run firm believes that if a private stakeholder was brought in then there was always a fear of it acquiring a larger stake from the open market and threatening the position of the promoters.
