Asian markets trade mostly lower in early deals on Monday

12 Dec 2022 Evaluate
Most of the Asian markets traded lower in early deals on Monday, as the higher-than-expected producer-price index raised doubts over Federal Reserve slowing pace of interest rate hikes. Risk sentiments in the market dulled ahead to the pivotal week for markets filled with interest rate decisions from major central banks and a key US consumer price index report that could influence rates expectations. Japan’s Nikkei also slipped in the session led by sharp correction in tech shares. Hang seng led losses among Asian indices, saddled by a slew of economic releases, woes over the US rate hikes, and on mounting COVID gloom in Beijing with accelerated infections.

Nikkei 225 down by 65.32 points or 0.23% to 27,835.69, Hang Seng shrunk by 374.93 points or 1.88% to 19,525.94, Taiwan sluggish by 116.69 points or 0.79% to 14,588.74, KOSPI diminished by 13.62 points or 0.57% to 2,375.42, Jakarta Composite curtailed by 26.61 points or 0.40% to 6,688.51, Shanghai widened by 20.32 points or 0.63% to 3,186.63 and FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI subdued by 4.42 points or 0.30% to 1,472.77.

On flip side, Straight times up by 1.51 points or 0.05% to 3,247.48.
