Asian markets traded mostly lower in early deals on Thursday, as the market sentiments got dulled on worries over global economic recession after Federal Reserve announced another 50-basis point interest hike and signalled further tightening ahead. Japan’s Nikkei eased in the session with concerns over hawkish Fed stance and as Japanese trade deficit expanded more than expected in November as imports outpaced exports. Hang Seng led losses among Asian indices after Hong Kong Monetary Authority delivered a 50 bps rate hike, similar to the pace of rate increases in the US, taking borrowing costs to a level not seen since January 2008 of 4.75%.

Nikkei 225 down by 91.81 points or 0.33% to 28,064.40, Straight times shrunk 12.90 points or 0.39% to 3,265.67, Hang Seng decreased by 224.30 points or 1.14% to 19,449.15, KOSPI curtailed by 25.50 points or 1.60% to 2,373.75, Jakarta Composite narrowed by 30.56 points or 0.45% to 6,771.19, Shanghai diminished by 8.80 points or 0.28% to 3,167.73, and FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI slumped by 5.65 points or 0.38% to 1,477.52.

On flip side, Taiwan climbed by 9.35 points or 0.06% to 14,748.71.
