Most of the Asian markets traded lower in early deals on Friday, as the risk appetite dwindled after Federal Reserve signaled truculent rate interest rate hikes going forward to tackle the inflation surge. The hawkish projection by the US Central Bank spooked fears about a potential recession. Moreover, the Bank of England, the European Central Bank, and the Swiss National Bank, are also in hawkish path mirroring Fed’s move. Japan’s Nikkei also tumbled in conjunction with the global sell off. Meanwhile, December manufacturing PMI in Japan fell to an over two-year low, while services PMI remained expansionary.

Nikkei 225 down by 497.37 points or 1.77% to 27,554.33, Straight times narrowed by 20.85 points or 0.64 to 3,252.90, Taiwan curtailed by 175.17 points or 1.19% to 14,558.96, KOSPI dipped by 6.76 points or 0.29% to 2,354.21, Jakarta Composite diminished by 12.42 points or 0.18% to 6,739.44, Shanghai declined by 7.98 points or 0.25% to 3,160.67 and FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI lower by 2.06 points or 0.14% to 1,465.07.

On flip side, Hang Seng rose by 18.11 points or 0.09% to 19,386.70.
