Asian markets were traded higher in early deals on Monday as China reported no covid deaths on the mainland for the five days through Saturday. Although, some gains were capped by concerns over a record surge of covid cases nationwide and a prolonged high interest rate regime in the United States. Japanese shares gained by tracking Wall Street's strength in the previous session. The yen climbed slightly against the US dollar with the Bank of Japan mulling an interest rate hike next year after surprise adjustment last week to its 10-year yield target. Meanwhile, markets in Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong remain closed for holidays.

Nikkei 225 up by 168.55 points or 0.64% to 26,403.80, Taiwan climbed by 19.51 points or 0.14% to 14,291.14, KOSPI jumped by 8.23 points or 0.36% to 2,321.92, Shanghai enlarged by 21.67 points or 0.71% to 3,067.54, and Jakarta Composite traded marginally higher by 1.31 points or 0.02% to 6,801.98.
