Jet Airways slashes domestic airfares by more than half for travel through the year

19 Feb 2013 Evaluate

India’s second largest carrier, Jet Airways unveiled country’s  biggest air ticket sale of 20 lakh seats at Rs 2,250 for travel up to anytime till December 31 this year. Fares, which typically start at Rs 5,000 for a one-way economy ticket, have been slashed to Rs 2,250. However, to avail this offer for any domestic flights up to December 31, tickets need be booked before February 24.

This move comes right after Kalanithi Maran-owned airline SpiceJet put on sale 10 lakh seats at Rs 2,013 for travel between February and April, which could be booked over three days. Further, this move also comes as pleasant surprise for the travelers as discounted ticket sales have been rare since Air Deccan was sold to Kingfisher Airlines as money-losing airlines focused on keeping themselves afloat.

Jet Airways reported a net profit of Rs 85 crore for the quarter ended December 31, 2012 as compared to a net loss of Rs 101.22 crore for the same quarter in the previous year. Total income operation of the company has increased by 2.04% at Rs 4251.22 crore for quarter under review as compared to Rs 4165.88 crore for the quarter ended December 31, 2011.
