Alstom T&D India has been awarded a turnkey Fixed Series Compensation (FSC) contract worth around Rs 65 crore by Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL) to improve power quality on the 400 kV Wardha Aurangabad Transmission Network. The contract marks yet another milestone in Alstom's strong partnership with PGCIL to upgrade the existing transmission infrastructure in the country.
The company will deliver the project on a turnkey basis, including design, engineering, manufacturing, supply, erection, testing and commissioning of the FSC system. Under the contract, company will supply capacitors, spark gaps, as well as control and instrumentation systems and an insulated platform. The project will be executed by Alstom T&D India and Alstom Grid Finland and is scheduled for commissioning in 2014.
Alstom's FSC system, one of the largest to be built in the world, will increase power capacity across the entire transmission line. Fixed series compensation has long been the preferred solution for optimizing performance in very large bulk transmission corridors. The function of the FSC system and its capacitors in a power grid is to improve efficiency by minimizing electrical losses and increasing the transmission system's overall transfer capability. Alstom's comprehensive portfolio of FACTS devices is dedicated to enhancing the power quality and performance of its customers' high- voltage AC transmission systems around the world.
