Indian Govt. to bring justice to Lankan Tamils

In the wake of fresh allegations of rights violations against ethnic Tamils in Sri Lanka, External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid has said that government was committed to bring justice to Lankan Tamils. India has raised accountability for such issues but remained evasive on the position it will take at the UN on a resolution against that country.

The issue of war crimes committed by the Lankan government was re-ignited after pictures of Prabhakaran's son before he was killed by the country's army were made public. The government came under fire from the AIADMK over war crimes committed by the Sri Lankan government in the last days of the crusade against the LTTE in 2009. The AIADMK's V Maitreyan lashed out at the government for not doing anything for the people of Tamil origin living in Lanka.

External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid made it clear that India would not intervene directly in Sri Lanka's sovereign affairs even as members in the Rajya Sabha expressed serious concern over the situation there and demanded an independent credible probe into the killing of LTTE chief Prabhakaran's 12-year-old son Balachandran.
