The Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) has directed Reliance Power (RPower) to deliberate with electricity consuming states the proposal to hike the tariff from its Sasan Ultra Mega Power Project (UMPP) in Madhya Pradesh in the next 15 days.
The key regulator of power sector has insisted both power procurers and producers to convene a meeting among by the end of this month and make available the minutes of the meeting to all the States and generation companies during the fortnight after which, the matter would be taken up by the commission on April 16.
Early in March, the company moved to the electricity regulator seeking compensation from the government for cost escalation at its Sasan ultra mega power project due to 'unprecedented' depreciation of the rupee. Besides this the company, also filed another petition with the Commission seeking relief and compensation due to increase in construction cost for the Sasan project.
As per the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) between the developer of the project and procurer of electricity, the company can approach CERC for any Change in Law during the Construction period and fluctuation in the value of the rupee.
