For six months starting from April, 2013 to September, 2013, the Central Government has decided to make available, quantity of 104 lakh tonnes (LT) of sugar as non-levy quota for open market sale. The sale and delivery/dispatch period for the above normal quota would be from April 01, 2013 and up to September 30, 2013, without any inter-month restrictions.
The non-levy quota would be apportioned and released only among those sugar mills, which have submitted online production returns at the time of release. Mill wise quota apportionment would discount the entire non-levy quota released for the period of October, 2012 and up to March, 2013 and any quantity left unsold would not be not be available for sale during the period of April, 2013 to September, 2013.
Besides, the government has made clear that any non-levy quota unsold during the period of current release i.e. April to September, 2013 would not be converted into levy quota. Further, for meeting requirements of Public Distribution System (PDS) for the months of April to May, 2013, the government has released 3.69 lakh MT of levy sugar during this month.
