NTPC commissions 5-MW solar photo-voltaic power project in Port Blair

NTPC has started operations at 5-MW solar photo-voltaic power project in Port Blair, Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The project is the first grid-connected solar photo-voltaic project in these islands and also the first green-field renewable solar PV project of NTPC. The company had faced serious challenges like lack of skilled manpower and machinery and inclement weather conditions. However, the company commissioned the project in a record time of six-and-half months.

The project was executed by Photon Energy Systems over 10 hectares. The entity is also planning to set up a 10-MW solar PV farm, in Phase I, at Ramagundam and possibly later take it to 25 MW.

NTPC is the largest power generating company in the country. It has also diversified into hydro power, coal mining, power equipment manufacturing, oil & gas exploration, power trading & distribution.
