Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Yashwant Sinha's demand to appear before the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) in the 2G scam case has been rejected by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. A detailed statement by the Prime Minister is expected later in the day.

Citing former Telecom Minister A Raja's communication to the JPC, Sinha asked PM Manmohan Singh to appear before the committee to clear his name following allegations levelled against him. A committee was examining the CAG report on the 2G scam, the Prime Minister had publicly offered to appear before it to enable the committee reach the right conclusions.

As former telecom minister A Raja is equally culpable as Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Finance Minister P Chidambaram in the 2G case Yashwant Sinha demanded that he be called to depose.

Reacting to Sinha’s remarks, information and broadcasting minister Manish Tewari said it would be more appropriate if Sinha, being a JPC member, speaks within the confines of the committee.
