Kingfisher Airlines’ employees protested outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, minutes before the city match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) Season 6 between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore started on April 4, 2013, demanding the immediate release of their pending salaries. Royal Challengers Bangalore team is owned by Mallya and hence the Kingfisher employees protested during the tournament.

The debt strapped firm paid salaries to its 2,000-odd employees for month of June and July after a section of them threatened to hold protest at residence of Indian Premier League team members and disrupt the matches. The airline has been grounded since October and its operating permit has been suspended. But employees haven’t been paid since July and were asking for remaining dues.
