JK Lakshmi Cement to continue with its plan to establish plant in Chhattisgarh

08 Apr 2013 Evaluate

JK Lakshmi Cement is likely to continue with its plan to establish Rs 1,500-crore plant in Durg district of Chhattisgarh despite its under-construction facility being damaged by some local villagers. On April 4, 2013, about 250-300 miscreants, mostly local villagers, illegally entered in JK Lakshmi Cement‘s Greenfield Cement plant and damaged some properties at the plant, including setting on fire some earth moving equipments, vehicles, etc.

Some local villagers had reportedly taken this step, angered by the company’s hesitancy to give jobs to project-affected persons. The company is claiming that, villagers have been seeking job for all irrespective of their skills and abilities.

JK Lakshmi Cement is engaged in the manufacturing of grey cement at its plants located at Sirohi, Rajasthan, with an installed capacity of 4.2 million tonnes per annum (mtpa), and at Kalol, Gujarat, with an installed capacity of 0.55 mtpa as on March 31, 2012.
