Bond yields edged lower on Thursday despite Finance Ministry in its annual status report said India’s external debt declined to 18.9 per cent of GDP at the end of March 2023 from 20 per cent last year.

In the global market, U.S. Treasury yields were mostly higher on Wednesday, erasing earlier declines, after economic data showed the services sector unexpectedly accelerated in August, with indications that inflation pressures remain firm. Furthermore, oil prices settled higher on Wednesday, reversing early declines as traders anticipated further draws on U.S. crude oil inventory following extended production cuts in Saudi Arabia and Russia.

Back home, the yields on new 10 year Government Stock were trading 4 basis point lower at 7.17% from its previous close of 7.21% on Wednesday.

The benchmark five-year interest rates were trading 1 basis point lower at 7.17% from its previous close of 7.18% on Wednesday.
