M&M surges on opening first toy store Beanstalk

M&M is currently trading at Rs. 812.90, up by 10.35 points or 1.26% from its previous closing of Rs. 802.55 on the BSE.

The scrip opened at Rs. 800.00 and has touched a high and low of Rs. 813.50 and Rs. 797.00 respectively. So far 52,129 shares were traded on the counter.

The BSE group 'A' stock of face value Rs. 5 has touched a 52 week high of Rs. 826.40 on 11-Nov-2010 and a 52 week low of Rs. 585.10 on 28-Feb-2011.

Last one week high and low of the scrip stood at Rs. 820.80 and Rs. 759.10 respectively. The current market cap of the company is Rs. 49274.55 crore.

The promoters holding in the company stood at 24.86% while Institutions and Non-Institutions held 46.22% and 22.54% respectively.

Mahindra & Mahindra, country’s largest utility vehicle maker has introduced a toy store Beanstalk, opened at Brookefields in Bangalore's IT suburb Whitefield. The store will target children up to their late teens. With this initiative M&M driven into a new market that pits it directly against the Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Retail.

Mahindra Retail has entered into the highly unorganized and fragmented 1,500 crore domestic toy market which is growing at 15%-20%, according to industry estimates, with its first toy store. This is the company's second venture in the retail sector, after it launched the mother and baby care brand Mom & Me more than two years ago.

The company has been distributing toy brands such as Lego, Disney and Mattel, among other products, through group subsidiary Mahindra Intertrade unit. M & M has focused on specialty formats to benefit from non-crowded retail segments.
