Vedanta group firm Sesa Goa is hopeful of securing forest clearances for resuming operations in Narrain mine located at Chitradurga district, Karnataka by May this year. The company's mine in Chitradurga district is among the mines in the state on which the Supreme Court had lifted its one and half year long ban.

Supreme Court, in the last week allowed 63 mines in category A and B to resume operations subject to fulfillment of rehabilitation and resettlement norms. This decision came as big relief to the company as most of its operations in Goa are also shut.

The company’s lease for the mine had expired in October last year and with that the forest clearance had also ended. While, the company could now begin mining on deemed basis till the renewal of the lease, it will require forest clearance before doing the same.
