Gail India has moved Madras High Court to put a stay on Tamil Nadu government’s order to stall company’s Rs 3,000 crore pipeline project, which was to connect the state of Kerala with Karnataka via Tamil Nadu. Tamil Nadu government decided to not allow the Gas Authority of India (GAIL) to proceed with its pipeline project across seven districts of Tamil Nadu. It ordered the company to immediately stop laying pipelines on the agricultural land and instead lay the same on roadsides along the national highways.

GAIL, then, filed the present petition to quash the April 2 letter of the government. Further, in the view of the fact that the high court's summer recess starts on Wednesday, the judge permitted GAIL to move the vacation court in case of any urgency.

Additional Solicitor General P Wilson, among other things, underscored that the project would certainly benefit the entire State of Tamil Nadu and meet the demand for gas and hence, must be allowed, keeping in mind the larger public interest of the State.
