The import of vegetable oils in the country during April 2013 is reported at 654,827 tonnes, a decline by 29.23% compared to 925,334 tonnes in April 2012, as per the data compiled by the Solvent Extractors’ Association of India (SEAI). This import of 654,827 tonnes consists of 641,327 tonnes of edible oils and 13,500 tonnes of non-edible oils. The excessive purchase of vegetable oils from the global market in the last five months has led to slowdown in imports in April as inventory was huge.
On the other hand, the overall import of vegetable oils during November 12 to April 13 is reported at 5,279,505 tonnes, up by 11.97% compared to 4,714,963 tonnes imported during the same period last year. Besides, import of RBD Palmolein doubled to 253,489 tonnes in April 2013 compared to 137,407 tonnes in March 2013. This was due to reduction in duty difference between crude and refined palmolein and inverted duty structure by palm oil exporting countries.
SEAI has reported the overall import of refined oil (RBD Palmolein) during November 12 to April 13 at 874,187 tonnes compared to 919,507 tonnes during the same period of last year. The share of refined oil is 17%, while crude oil share is 83% and reported at 4,264,576 tonnes compared to 3,683,636 tonnes during the same period of last year.
