Amidst demand for expeditious trial of terror cases involving Muslim youth, Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde has announced setting up of fast-track courts to look into terror cases where Muslim youths are held accused. Centre has sent an advisory to states to find out how many such inmates were held up in prison and for how many years they had been there.

The move is being looked by many as an act to appease the minority votebank ahead of the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. On the proposed National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), Shinde said the draft of the proposal would be placed before the chief ministers for discussion at a conference in June.

When asked about his assessment of cross-border internal security issues in the wake of new government coming to office in Pakistan, Shinde said it would not be appropriate to make full assessment.
