Sterlite versus TNPCB hearing resumes in Green Tribunal: Report

31 May 2013 Evaluate

Sterlite Industries versus Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) hearing has reportedly been resumed in Green Tribunal. National Green Tribunal will decide its plea latest by June 1, 2013. Recently, the TNPCB, on May 14, 2013 pleaded before National Green Tribunal not to hear an appeal of Vedanta Group firm Sterlite Industries, against its order directing closure of the company’s copper smelting plant in Tuticorin district of Tamil Nadu.

TNPCB contended that Sterlite’s plea is not maintainable in the Tribunal (NGT) as the company had bypassed the appellate authority set up under the statute to hear the appeals.
