PowerGrid likely to set up inter-state transmission networks

31 Oct 2011 Evaluate
State-run PowerGrid Corp likely to lay out inter-state transmission networks in different states. The company for this is planning to enter into joint venture agreements with various state governments including that of Orissa, Sikkim, Assam, etc.

PowerGrid believes that there is a need for an efficient power transmission network to evacuate the power and connect it to the grid as many states have taken initiatives in augmenting the power capacity. It has already adopted the joint venture model on public private partnership (PPP) basis with eight companies for intra-state connectivity.

The corporation has entered into joint venture agreements with Powerlinks Transmission, Parbati Koldam Transmission Company, Torrent Power Grid, Energy Efficiency Services, Teesta Valley Power Transmission, Northeastern Transmission Company and National High Power Test Laboratory.
