Eveready Industries is planning to introduce transistor sets for Rs 500, mainly for the rural and semi-urban markets. It has taken this decision after considering FM stations plans to hit towns with less than 1 lakh population. With this initiative, the company also aims to boost its core business - batteries, on which the transistors run.
Eveready is largely involved in the production of batteries and lighting solutions, but is also in the tea business. It has a portfolio comprising ‘dry cell batteries (carbon zinc batteries, rechargeable batteries and alkaline batteries), flashlights (torches), CFLs (Compact Fluorescent Lamps) and packet tea.
