Tata Power bags contract for developing coal-fired thermal power plants in Vietnam: Report

Tata Power Company reportedly has bagged approx Rs 10,240 crore contract for developing two 660 megawatts (MW) coal-fired thermal power plants in south Vietnam. The company, which has been awarded the Long Phu 2 project by government of Vietnam based on the pre-feasibility studies, is currently pursuing further steps including formalizing a memorandum of understanding (MoU).

Long Phu 2 will be one of three plants at the Long Phu thermo-electricity centre planned by the Vietnamese government through 2025. While, the first plant, Long Phu 1, is being built by the state-run PetroVietnam and is scheduled to start commercial operations in 2015, the construction for plants of Long Phu-2 project is expected to start in 2019.
