Indian rupee ended higher against the US dollar on Friday amid gains in domestic markets. Investors overlooked the latest data released by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) showing that deposit growth of commercial banks further slowed down to 10.64 per cent for the fortnight ending June 28. Credit growth also declined during the period. On the global front, the yen steadied on Friday, a day after the Bank of Japan likely intervened to prop up the currency, on the coat-tails of an unexpected drop in U.S. consumer prices that fuelled the largest drop in the dollar since May.

Finally, the rupee ended at 83.52 (Provisional), stronger by 1 paisa from its previous close of 83.53 on Thursday. The currency touched a high and low of 83.55 and 83.49 respectively.
