PowerGrid rises on seeking permission from CERC to implement smart grid plan

Power Grid Corporation of India is currently trading at Rs. 108.60, up by 0.60 points or 0.56% from its previous closing of Rs. 108.00 on the BSE.

The scrip opened at Rs. 107.50 and has touched a high and low of Rs. 108.90 and Rs. 107.50 respectively. So far 29460 shares were traded on the counter.

The BSE group 'A' stock of face value Rs. 10 has touched a 52 week high of Rs. 124.45 on 05-Sep-2012 and a 52 week low of Rs. 101.20 on 22-Mar-2013.

Last one week high and low of the scrip stood at Rs. 114.95 and Rs. 105.20 respectively. The current market cap of the company is Rs. 50371.41 crore.

The promoters holding in the company stood at 69.42% while Institutions and Non-Institutions held 21.87% and 8.70% respectively.

PowerGrid Corporation of India is seeking permission from Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) for upgrading its 1,700 stations in an initiative to implement the smart-grid mechanism. This up gradation project is likely to cost around Rs 655 crore and is expected to complete in three years.

The entity has inked pact with Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mumbai to help analyze the data. Smart grid is an evolutionary process. It is likely to take up smart grid implementation across the national grids, the intra-State transmission systems have to be upgraded by the electricity distribution companies.
