Jaiprakash Associates, Hindustan Semiconductor in race for semiconductor plants: Report

Consortium led by Jaiprakash Associates and other by Hindustan Semiconductor -- are reportedly in fray for setting up semiconductor plants in India which may involve an estimated investment of Rs 25,000 crore. J P Associates has partnered with IBM and Isreal-based tower Jazz for setting up fabs, while partners of HSMC, founded by non-resident Indians, is still to be ascertained.

Government plans setting up two semiconductor plants for strategic reason where electronic chips will be produced, given that country depends highly on imports for meeting electronic product requirement which includes import of electronic chips as well.
