Reliance Infrastructure has reportedly decided to quit the operations on Delhi airport's metro line, as it is facing losses and low ridership on the route which re-opened this January after six months of closure. It has asked its public sector partner, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), to take over the operations of the metro line, from June 30.
The DMRC has rejected Reliance Infrastructure's notice, as this act is against the concession agreement and ongoing arbitration proceedings between the two partners. This project has never worked out in terms of traffic numbers, and the seven month suspension of the line due to safety concerns has instilled a fear psychosis among commuters.
