Sugar stocks gain on buzz of import duty hike

Sugar stocks gained on reports that the government has decided to raise the import duty on the sweetener to 15 per cent from 10 per cent currently. The move is aimed to discourage overseas buying amid a drop in local prices due to ample supplies.

Shree Renuka Sugars is currently trading at Rs. 16.80, up by 0.20 points or 1.20 % from its previous closing of Rs. 16.60 on the BSE. The scrip opened at Rs. 17.05 and has touched a high and low of Rs. 17.50 and Rs. 16.70 respectively. So far 1150087 shares were traded on the counter.

Bajaj Hindusthan is currently trading at Rs. 15.35, up by 0.17 points or 1.12 % from its previous closing of Rs. 15.18 on the BSE. The scrip opened at Rs. 15.40 and has touched a high and low of Rs. 15.80 and Rs. 15.30 respectively. So far 239956 shares were traded on the counter.

EID-Parry (India) is currently trading at Rs. 137.20, up by 1.25 points or 0.92 % from its previous closing of Rs. 135.95 on the BSE. The scrip opened at Rs. 137.95 and has touched a high and low of Rs. 138.00 and Rs. 136.35 respectively. So far 2948 shares were traded on the counter.
