Maruti Suzuki to send 200 contract workers on indefinite leave: Report

Maruti Suzuki, country’s largest carmaker has reportedly asked its 200 contract workers to go on indefinite leave following cut in diesel engine production at its Manesar plant because of decline in demand. It has closed down the third shift at the plant, which has an annual capacity of 3,00,000 units.

Automaker’s total production for the month of June 2013 has declined by 25.34% to 61668 units from 82626 units in same month last year. The production of Mini cars, like Alto, A-Star and Wagon-R has declined by 12.27% to 28227 units from 32176 units in June 2012. While, compact cars like Ritz, Swift, and Estilo production have slipped by 46.36% to 12365 units against 23053 units in the same month last year.
