The US markets extended their gains for the third day on Monday, as investors geared up for the start of the second quarter earnings season. Aluminum producer Alcoa was slated to post second-quarter earnings numbers after the closing bell. Traders continued to react positively to last Friday's monthly jobs report, which showed stronger than expected job growth in the month of July. Though, the trading activity was relatively subdued and uncertainty about the upcoming earnings season kept the traders on sidelines. On the economy front, Federal Reserve reported that consumer credit increased in May by $19.6 billion to $2.8 trillion, the most in a year. Traders were now eyeing minutes of the central bank’s June meeting and Fed Chairman Ben S. Bernanke to provide further guidance on plans to scale back asset purchases in its meeting on Wednesday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 88.85 points or 0.59 percent to 15,224.69 and the S&P 500 ended higher by 8.57 points or 0.53 percent to 1,640.46, while the Nasdaq gained 5.45 points or 0.16 percent to 3,484.83.

Indian ADRs closed mostly in red on Monday, HDFC Bank was down by 0.64%, ICICI Bank was down by 0.02%, Tata Motors was down by 0.54% and Dr Reddy’s was down by 0.11%.

On the other hand, Infosys was up by 0.42% and Wipro was up by 0.03%.
