Tata Power commissions compact biogas plant in Maharashtra

16 Jul 2013 Evaluate

Tata Power, India’s largest integrated power utility, has successfully commissioned a unique compact biogas plant in the residential colony at Khopoli, which uses waste food rather than dung/manure as feedstock to supply biogas for cooking. The newly commissioned plant has a capacity of utilising 100 kg waste feed per day.

A compact biogas system that uses starchy or sugary feedstock such as waste grain flour, spoilt grain, overripe or misshapen fruit, non-edible seeds, fruits and rhizomes, green leaves, kitchen waste, leftover food, etc helps fight this threat of fuel scarcity. Just 2kg of such feedstock produces about 500gm of methane, and the reaction is completed within 24 hours.

Tata Power is India's largest integrated power company with a significant international presence. The Company has an installed generation capacity of 8521 MW in India and a presence in all the segments of the power sector viz. Generation (thermal, hydro, solar and wind), Transmission, Distribution and Trading.
