NTPC has inked pact with Coal India to fuel 14,000 MW. Putting an end to a year-long conflict, Coal India has decided to supply coal with calorific value of 3100 kcal/kg, which will undergo third party sampling at coal loading point and failing which the miner cannot claim incentive. Coal India, in total has inked 28 pacts to supply 60 mt coal/ year to NTPC. The company supplies coal worth Rs 60 crore per day to NTPC.
CIL and NTPC have been fighting over the quality of coal supplied from the Rajmahal coal mine of Eastern Coalfields (ECL), a subsidiary of CIL, since October 2012. ECL supplies 14.5 million tonne annually to NTPC facilities at Farakka (2,100 mw) in West Bengal and Kahalgaon (1,340 mw) in Bihar, from Rajmahal.
NTPC is the largest power generating company in the country. It has also diversified into hydro power, coal mining, power equipment manufacturing, oil & gas exploration, power trading & distribution.
